I'm a very big Captain America fan. In preparation for the Avengers movie next summer, my friends and I are assembling costume pieces. I'm to be Cap, and to be Cap, one must have the shield. Unfortunately, there were no reviews to analyze so that I could make an informed decision. Also, in trying to find a metal shield of good quality (and that didn't cost ~$400), this was the best to be found. After a lot of research and price comparisons, I arrived at purchasing this shield.
Upon arrival, the shield, despite being packaged very well, had numerous dents. Since it was packaged as well as it was, I can only assume it was placed in the box to be shipped with the dents already present. After removing it from the box, I found that the metal the shield is made from is very thin and weighs next to nothing. The seller's description of the product was true, in that the shield was new in box, metal, ~24" in diameter, etc.
What wasn't told is that the metal is flimsy--prone to denting and warping. The straps on the back are adjustable, but thin elastic, so that even when adjusted properly, the elastic expands and the shield does not stay in place.
The shield is a good wall decoration, and a decent costume prop, but for it to be worth ~$70 + tax is very questionable. When I make a costume, I go all out and make it the best it can be (want proof? check: [...] for my Ghostbusters costume). In order to use the shield for my costume, I'll have to modify it: replace the straps with something more sturdy and not elastic, and reinforce the back with resin/fiberglass so that the slightest touch won't dent it. After paying ~$70 for it, I shouldn't have to spend more money modifying it so that it doesn't dent and warp.
If you're considering purchasing this shield b/c you want a metal one and it's the best you can find, just know that you'll probably have to modify it. If you're fine with that, then go ahead.
I love the shield. I do. It's just a bit of a gripe that it is so cheaply made despite its price.

The quality of this product is very disappointing. When I pulled the shield out of the box it was shipped in it already had a few visible warps in the shield. When I picked it up I pressed it and it was as malleable as an aluminum can. The straps weren't very well described in the product description either. They are flimsy and barely hold.
That aside, it looks good and would be a decent wall decoration. But I would not pay more than 35 dollars for this work of art. :( I feel robbed.

Its a trash can lid, its the right size, but has to be worn on your back, no way for it to really fit on your arm, and tents super easy. By metal it means Tin at best.

Recieve this as a surprise gift. I really should have read the reviews before putting on my wish lists. Yes this shield is not worth the $70 price tag it's more of a $40 item. Item was packed well. They need to improve the picture they have up because you can not see from the picture the fact that the red does not go all the way to the edge the metal coloring is seen, as well as the 8 lil dots that shows where the straps are screwed in, it makes it look really cheap. It is of course flimsy since it's tin. Will make an ok wall decoration or costume prop.

This shield was purchased as a wall decoration. For this purpose, it is perfect. It is made of a very thin metal and there were a few minor scratches on the paint upon arrival, but overall it looks really neat. It came well packaged in a large box. I would not recommend this as a toy, as it could not take one hit without denting or bending.
